You don’t have to be a sportsperson to feel the benefits of having a sports massage (aka deep tissue massage. Aimed at relieving those ‘knots’ you often feel in your muscles, sports massage can help to relieve the tension that builds up in your muscles, be it from regular training or stress in the workplace.
Sports massage can…
- increase flexibility and relieve muscle soreness
- assist in injury prevention and promote faster recovery from both training and injury
- be used effectively pre-event, inter event, post event and during rehabilitation
Therefore, having a sports massage regularly may help to prevent injuries from occurring in the first place.

Acupuncture is the application of fine needles into the body at specific points, with patients often describing the needle sensation as a tingling or a dull ache (rather than the pain you may associate with injections). The needles then stimulate a physiological and hormonal response from your body known as ‘Qi’, or ‘vital energy’, which can aid recovery from pain, fatigue and stress.
Acupuncture is widely considered to be beneficial from a range of illnesses and symptoms, from clearly defined complaints such as migraines, to more general feelings of ill health and low energy.
Whether you’re at an elite level or a weekend warrior, the last thing that any sports person wants to hear when they’re injured is “you need to stop doing your sport and rest”. With our experience gained from the professional sports world, we understand the importance of your training goals.
Often, if you have a sports injury and are worried about being ready for a big match or race, then a careful moderation of your training program may be the only thing required to get you back to full fitness. On those occasions where rest maybe required in order to let an injury settle, at The Physio Health Clinic you can be sure that we will do our best to get you back in action as soon as possible. This can be achieved not only by 1:1 sessions in the clinic, but also with the provision of an appropriate strength and functional exercise program which can be performed at home or on the training pitch.
At The Physio Health Clinic, we work closely with several companies to provide physiotherapy to patients who may recently have had a road traffic accident or an injury sustained at work. If you are one of these patients and have been contacted by someone from The Physio Health Clinic, then the chances are your treatment has already been pre-approved by a medico-legal company. In this instance, the cost of treatment will be recovered from either the third party’s insurance policy, or from your employer’s insurance policy, until a satisfactory resolution of your symptoms has been achieved.
If you belong to a health conscious business that prioritise the well-being of its staff, or a medico-legal company and would like to use The Physio Health Clinic to provide services for your clients, then please do not hesitate to get in touch to see how we can be of assistance.
